Footsteps - All Around Athens

What a wonderfully busy day! We walked, and walked, and walked.

Today, we started out by walking to the acropolis. There we saw the Theatre of Dionysius, the Hospital of Hippocrates, the Hadrian’s Odeon, the Temple of Nike, the Erechtheion (dedicated to Poseidon), and the Parthenon (home of Athena). After this visit we went to Mars Hill where the Apostle Paul preached to the Areopagus and the learned people of Athens. We took a break to listen to Paul’s teachings from Acts 17 about the unknown God and considered what is the unique thing that faith brings to the world that nothing else can. This was followed by a march through the ancient agora and a visit to the Stoa Museum. Lunch - what to say about lunch? Bread, salad, mixed meat plate, and orange olive oil cake. While in a food coma, we walked through the magnificent Acropolis Museum which houses so many memorable pieces of ancient artwork and the devastatingly beautiful Caryatids (statues of young girls that were designed to serve as columns for the Erechtheion). Pictures will not do this day justice, but here are some of the highlights.
