The cobalt blue Aegean Sea, the Grotto of Revelation where John received his vision of the resurrected Christ and wrote his message to the seven churches, St. John's Monastery where an ancient manuscript of the Gospel of Mark and a famous icon by El Greco are housed, and lunch overlooking the beach on Patmos all marked an unforgettable day. This was indeed holy ground.
